Underdog of aviation - SSJ100

Image
Being a massive aviation anorak - I love practically every aircraft, but there is one in particular I really like... The SSJ100! Up, up above the clouds - I wish this was still a sight!

Switched identities! - Airbus A220

Image
The Airbus A220 is by far one of my most favourite aircraft but it also is an aircraft with a complicated history behind it... My A220 illustration, happily flying over some forests! Originally having been developed by Bombardier as the C-Series, Airbus had decided at one point to take a majority stake into the aircraft and push rebranding to boost profit by filling a gap in their fleet. Powered by two very quiet PW1500G turbofans, makes this aircraft incredibly quiet and fuel efficient - perfect for passenger comfort and not making people on the ground grumpy!

The high flyer! - Myasishchev M-17

Image
Most people are familiar with the famous Lockheed U-2 'Dragon Lady', but did you know that Russia had also developed a similar type of aircraft within the cold war? My illustration of the M-17 in it's element - FL700!  The Myasishchev M-17 "Stratosphera" (NATO code named 'Mystic A')  is a soviet high-altitude subsonic jet which was designed with the sole purpose of intercepting drifting spy balloons called ADAs (Automatic Drifting Balloons) made by the USA, which were used for valuable reconnaissance.  The USA also already had an aircraft capable of high altitude flying (the U-2) which was constantly used to fly over Russia to gather information about top-secret projects being developed. The Soviet Union was not happy about this within the cold war and on the 1st of May 1960 one was finally shot down. Attempts to recreate the American aircraft were attempted however the venture of copying the aircraft was ceased in 1962... The continuous usage of ADAs p

Never to be - the Tu-244

Image
Being a SST (Super Sonic Transport) lover, the Tupolev Tu-244 has always interested me as an quirky project, with its massive wings and the concept to create a SST with cryogenic fuels! It was planned that one of these would have been able to carry around 311 passengers at speeds excess MACH 2.0  ( 1333.48 knots ) . My illustration of the Tu-244 in flight - Such a shame these were never to be Unfortunately the project was cancelled in 1993 (having drafts begun in 1979 for this project)... It was planned for the airframe of the Tu-244 to be made out of Titanium-composite materials to withstand the heating effects of such great speeds (from merely the friction between the aircraft and the air) . To achieve these speeds, an hydrogen powered version of the  Kuznetsov NK-321 was planned to be used to be able to use the cryogenic fuels. These engines are also capable of  after-burning. It's always such a shame to see such a cool project being washed down the sink, as this was develope

Tu-214 Rossiya Special Flight Squadron

Image
Firstly welcome to my blog! I am a massive aviation anorak and have been loving aviation for as long as I can remember - it is literally my life! Having been mainly a flight sim developer in my free time in the past, I thought to give a go some aviation illustrations as they are both very linked making aircraft liveries and applying those skills to drawings / paintings... Most of my posts are supplemented with my INSTAGRAM ... You are more than welcome to download my images however PLEASE KEEP MY SIGNATURE to maintain the copyrights to me. I hope you enjoy! TU-214: The Tupolev TU-214 is an upgraded version of the TU-204, with added fuel tanks and an extra full size door on the port side of the aircraft just before the leading edge of the wing. Here below is my illustration of a TU-214 ran on behalf of the Rossiya Special Flight Squadron. The TU-214 is an interesting aircraft, with its common resemblance to the A320 series of aircraft however it is a completely different beast! Powered
